The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Held The Maiden Graduation Ceremony Of The School Of Orthopaedic Cast Technology And The Second Graduation Ceremony Of The School Of Anaesthetic Technology. The Historic Dual Event Took Place On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, At The Hospital's MRC Auditorium.
Addressing The Graduands And Guests, The Chief Medical Director Of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Described The Occasion As A Significant Milestone, Marking The Successful Completion Of Professional Training By The Graduating Students Of Both Schools. He Congratulated The Graduands On Behalf Of The Management And Entire Staff Of LASUTH, Commending Their Dedication, Resilience, And Commitment To Excellence Throughout Their Training.
Prof. Fabamwo Also Acknowledged The Strategic Leadership And Sustained Support Of The Lagos State Government Under The Administration Of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Noting That The Government Continues To Prioritize Healthcare As A Cornerstone Of Social And Economic Development. He Further Commended The Lagos State Ministry Of Health For Providing Policy Direction, Regulatory Oversight, And Strategic Coordination For Health Workforce Development In The State.
According To The Chief Medical Director, The Ministry Has Consistently Emphasized The Importance Of Building A Competent, Multidisciplinary Health Workforce As A Foundation For Achieving Universal Access To Quality Healthcare. He Noted That Through Deliberate Policies, Accreditation Support, Curriculum Strengthening, And Alignment With National And Global Best Practices, The Ministry Of Health Has Ensured That Training Institutions Produce Graduates Who Are Not Only Technically Competent But Also Ethically Grounded And Responsive To The Evolving Needs Of The Health System. He Described The Graduation Ceremony As A Direct Outcome Of This Purposeful Stewardship.
While Addressing The Graduands, Prof. Fabamwo Reminded Them That They Are Products Of A System That Believes In Capacity Building And Excellence. He Emphasized That The Skills Acquired As Orthopaedic Cast Technologists And Anaesthetic Technologists Are Critical To Trauma Care, Surgical Safety, And Patient Recovery. He Urged Them To Uphold The Standards Of Professionalism, Patient Safety, Teamwork, Continuous Learning, And Respect For Human Dignity As They Enter Professional Practice Laid Down By LASUTH And The Ministry Of Health.
He Also Commended The Faculty And Instructors For Their Dedication To Training And Mentorship, Appreciated Parents And Guardians For Their Unwavering Support, And Thanked Partners And Stakeholders For Their Collaboration In Strengthening Health Education And Service Delivery. Prof. Fabamwo Reaffirmed LASUTH’s Commitment To Expanding Training Opportunities, Strengthening Accreditation, Upgrading Facilities, And Continuously Improving The Quality Of Its Training Programmes In Line With The Policy Direction Of The Ministry Of Health And The Broader Health Sector Agenda Of The Lagos State Government.
Delivering A Goodwill Message, The Representative Of The National Board For Technical Education (NBTE), Mr. Gbenga Segun Abejide, Commended The Hospital Management And School Directors For Their Indefatigable Efforts In Sustaining The Programmes. He Encouraged The Graduates To Remain Confident And Purposeful, Stressing That Possession Of A National Diploma (ND) Does Not Diminish Their Value Or Professional Relevance.
Similarly, The Representative Of The Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board (JAMB), Lagos Zonal Office, Mrs. Oluwakemi Awosanya, Urged The Graduands To Apply Their Knowledge Innovatively For The Betterment Of Society And To Continually Seek Improvement In Their Professional Practice.
The National President Of The Association Of Orthopaedic Technicians And Technologists Of Nigeria (ASSOTTON), Comrade Adeleye Matthew Ayodele, Inducted The Students Who Passed The Association’s Examination, Congratulated All The Graduands, And Emphasized That Orthopaedic Cast Technology Requires Dedication, Discipline, And A Willingness To Go The Extra Mile.
In Her Valedictory Address, The Overall Best Graduating Student Of The School Of Anaesthetic Technology, Oluwaniyi Adeola Busayo, Expressed Deep Appreciation To The Management Of LASUTH For Establishing The School. Reflecting On The Training Experience, She Noted That Although Anaesthetic Technologists Administer Anaesthesia, It Is God Who Sustains Life. She Described The Graduating Class As One That Had Completed Rigorous Years Of Academic And Clinical Training, Adding That The Journey Had Transformed Them From Students Into Skilled Professionals Equipped To Provide Life-saving Care.
Also Delivering A Valedictory Speech, The Overall Best Graduating Student Of The School Of Orthopaedic Cast Technology, Oviawe Stella Omonofe, Expressed Gratitude To The Hospital Management And Faculty Members. As Members Of The Pioneer Set, She Stated That They Had The Unique Privilege And Responsibility Of Laying A Solid Academic Foundation For Future Cohorts.
She Noted That One Of The Major Highlights Of Their Training Was The Opportunity To Sit For The Professional Licence Examination And Complete It Successfully With Other Tertiary Institutions Across The Country.
