LASUTH’s Directorate Of Nursing Services Hosts Its 18th Annual Scientific Conference.

The Directorate Of Nursing Services Of The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Successfully Hosted Its 18th Annual Scientific Conference, Themed “Our Nurses, Our Future: Caring For Nurses Strengthens Economies.” The Three-day Event, Held From Monday,1st To Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, Brought Together Nurses, Healthcare Professionals, Policymakers, And Key Stakeholders For Learning, Engagement, And Professional Development.

‎ ‎The Celebration Commenced With A Courtesy Visit To The Hospital Management, Followed By An Awareness Walk Around The Hospital Premises. This Was Immediately Succeeded By Two Impactful Lectures, A Session On Wealth Creation Titled “Building A Wealth-Generating Mindset As A Nurse,” Delivered By Dr. Mayowa Owolabi, Founder Of Wealthgate Africa; And A Clinical Lecture By Dr. Ramon Moronkola, Consultant Cardiologist At LASUTH, On “Nurses’ Contribution To Hypertension Management (Home Monitoring).”

‎ ‎During The Courtesy Visit, The Director Of Nursing Services, Mrs. Adebola Aina, Who Led The Team, Expressed Heartfelt Appreciation To The Hospital Management For Their Consistent Support Of The Nursing Directorate Over The Years.

‎ ‎Responding, The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Warmly Welcomed The Team And Congratulated Them On The Occasion Of Their Conference. He Commended The Department, Noting With Pride That Some Nurses Have Been Encouraged To Broaden Their Professional Skills By Being Sponsored Abroad For Advanced Training, Which Is An Accomplishment That Reflects The High Standards Of LASUTH’s Nursing Workforce.

‎Prof. Fabamwo Emphasized That Nurses Remain The Backbone Of Healthcare Delivery. He Noted That Investing In Their Welfare, Training, And Continuous Development Enhances Efficiency, Reduces Burnout, And Significantly Strengthens Both The Healthcare System And The Broader Economy. He Wished The Nursing Team A Successful And Enriching Celebration.

‎ ‎ ‎In Her Opening Remarks, Mrs. Aina Reiterated That Compassion Is Central To The Nursing Profession. She Explained That Compassion Enables Nurses To Form Meaningful Connections With Patients While Delivering Holistic Care That Meets Both Physical And Emotional Needs. Beyond Being An Emotion, She Described Compassion As A Powerful Force That Leaves A Lasting Impact On Patients, Families, And Communities.

‎ ‎ ‎She Expressed Deep Gratitude To The Governor Of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, For His Commitment To A Healthier Lagos And For Making Healthcare A Priority Under The THEMES+ Agenda. She Also Appreciated The Honourable Commissioner For Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, For His Leadership And Dedication To Enhancing Health Infrastructure And Developing A Resilient Health Workforce. In Addition, She Acknowledged The Steadfast Support Of The CMD Of LASUTH, Prof. Fabamwo, For Fostering An Environment That Enables Nurses To Excel.

‎ ‎ ‎The Event Was Formally Inaugurated By The Chief Medical Director And Chief Host, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Ably Represented By Prof. Adebowale O. Adekoya, Director Of Clinical Services And Training. In His Remarks, Prof. Adekoya Expressed His Delight At Witnessing How The Conference Has Grown Into A Well-recognized And Respected Annual Event Over The Years.

‎ ‎ ‎Speaking On The Theme, He Highlighted That The Conference Reaffirms The Essential Role Of Nurses In The Healthcare System And Underscores The Need For Improved Welfare, Training, And Ongoing Support For The Nursing Workforce. He Noted That The Platform Enables Nurses To Present Research, Explore Emerging Trends, And Share Best Practices, Key Elements That Strengthen Clinical Competence And Promote Evidence-based Practice. He Commended The Directorate Of Nursing Services For Sustaining An Event That Elevates The Image Of The Nursing Profession Within LASUTH And Across Nigeria.

She Noted That The Conference Provides A Valuable Opportunity For Nurses, Healthcare Professionals, Policymakers, And Stakeholders To Strengthen Professional Networks And Foster Collaboration Across Institutions. She Encouraged Nurses To Continue Empowering Themselves, Lead With Confidence, And Innovate Toward Building A Prosperous And Sustainable Healthcare Future.
